The second-seeded Ravens (17-5-1) won their third straight game and their 12th in the last 13 contests to advance to the semifinals against 14th-seeded Bordentown, which upset 11th-seeded Allentown, 5-4, after stunning third-seeded Delran, 13-0, in the opening round.

Seventh-seeded Manasquan (14-8) jumped out to an early lead with a run in the first inning, but Robbinsville responded with single runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings to take control of the game.

Yoo went the distance on the mound for Robbinsville, scattering five hits while allowing just two runs and striking out four batters without issuing a walk.

Gavin Hopkins led the Ravens’ offense, going 2-for-3 with a run scored and two stolen bases, while also drawing a walk. Bunnell also had a productive day at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with an RBI, a double, and a stolen base. Wysokowski contributed an RBI single for Robbinsville.

For Manasquan, Dylan Vowteras had a standout performance in the losing effort, going 2-for-3 with an RBI, a run scored, a single and a double. Matt Antonucci added a double and scored a run, while Tristan Condon singled and drove in the Warriors’ other run.

Shane Hagerman took the loss for Manasquan despite striking out four batters in just 1 1/3 innings of relief. He allowed three hits and a run.

Keegan Hertel pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) while striking out four and walking two.

BELMAR, NJ — Do you want to appear as a contestant on Love Island USA?

Peacock, NBCUniversal’s streaming service that produces the show, will hold a casting call June 7 at nowhere else but Bar Anticipation (Bar A) in Lake Como. It will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. at the bar at 703 16th Ave.

If you want to appear as a contestant, you are asked to stop by the bar on June 7 to record a casting tape to be considered for an upcoming season.

There will be later casting dates June 14 in Atlanta, and a final one June 28 in San Diego. If you can't be there June 7, visit ITV's official casting website for a chance to apply.

Peacock says they are turning Bar A into a "Love Island Villa Pop-Up." There may also be some surprise appearances from Season 6 cast members.

Madilynn Boyce became just the 26th pitcher in New Jersey softball history to record 1,000 career strikeouts when she struck out the first six batters in a 1-0 win over Manasquan in Middletown on Tuesday.

But Boyce hardly stopped with the first six strikeouts as she fanned 18 overall, including the first 12 batters in a row, and allowed just two hits in an absolutely dominating pitching performance.

“I definitely had the adrenalin rush because I knew what today could have been. It was Senior Day, it’s like a happy moment but it’s also bittersweet, so I was definitely there.”

Boyce struck out the side in each of the first four innings, and got all three outs on strikeouts in the fifth after Manasquan’s Delia Gilmore broke up her perfect game with a double to center to lead off the inning.

But it was the final out of the second, on a called third strike to the Warriors’ Calista Vowtera that was No. 1,000 and Boyce was clearly moved by the moment, as her teammates and coaches mobbed the pitching circle in congratulations.

“I think it’s such a big milestone to me because the eight seniors on this team I have actually played with since I was eight years old,” the Seton Hall bound senior said. “Having them all on the same field for me as it happened, they’re all my best friends. It was definitely a full moment.”

As so often has been the case over the past four seasons, Boyce’s dominating pitching performance was not aided by a lot of offensive support. Although Middletown North banged out five hits and produced 10 base runners during the game, it took a fluke pinch hit single in the bottom of the sixth by the Lions’ Julie Frontera to produce the 1-0 margin of victory.

Adriana Lisotto had led off the bottom of the sixth with a single, advanced to second on a fielding error and then stole third. Julie Sickler would follow with a blistering line drive to the right side, but it was right at Manasquan second baseman Julianne Runge, who gloved the smash for the second out.

Frontera then stepped into the box and hit a soft, short pop up that hit just inside the baseline and seemed destined to skip foul. But the ball hit the ground with some serious English and corkscrewed straight into the ground, embedding itself in the ground in fair territory just six feet down the baseline, allowing Frontera to reach first safely and Lisotto to come home with the game’s winning run.

“We joked about it,” Middletown North coach Chris Hoffman said of Frontera’s RBI single. “She’s (normally) our starting shortstop, so she’s an everyday player, anyway. She got back in the dugout and I was like, ‘What was that?’ But we’ll take it.”

With a 1-0 lead and Boyce needing just three outs to close things out, it looked like clear sailing for the Lions. But Manasquan had other ideas and the Warriors’ Mia Law led off the seventh by drilling an 0-2 pitch to deep center field for a double, threatening the narrow, Middletown North lead.

But Boyce handled the adversity in her customary fashion, striking out the next three batters to end the game.

“It’s part of the game, the hits,” Boyce said of the doubles by Gilmore in the fifth and Law in the seventh. “As a pitcher it has to make you stronger. You have to take that as more, like, power to me, to help me to make my outs for my team. They were good hits, so it definitely took me a second to get back into it.”

It was the 57th time Middletown North has won 1-0 with Boyce in the circle, and Hoffman has gotten used to the kind of clutch pitching performance that his star hurler turned in on Tuesday.

“It’s kind of simple, that’s what she does,” Hoffman said of Boyce. “That’s what separates her from a lot of kids. When something maybe goes wrong in an inning, she doesn’t lose her composure, doesn’t freak out and gets back on the mound and gets the next girl. She’s done it for four years.

“What people don’t know about her, outside of softball, she’s even a better kid. The stuff that she does for this school, this town and little kids. She’s the best.”

Boyce is the second player in school history to cross the 1,000 strikeout barrier, following Malori Bell, who picked up her 1,000th on Senior Day in 2019. That makes Middletown North and Cedar Grove the only two teams to have two 1,000 strikeout pitchers in their schools’ history.

And Bell was in attendance at Tuesday’s game to watch Boyce’s historic accomplishment.

“I was here when she got her 1,000th strikeout,” Boyce said of Bell. “I was in sixth grade and I always remember looking up to her and wanting to be her. So her being able to be here and to get my 1,000th strikeout on Senior Day just like her, with her watching me, definitely was heartwarming.”

They always say New Jersey is like an East Coast Hollywood. Between TV shows, movies, planned studios, theaters, and more, the Garden State is the place to be for those looking to become part of the action.

Speaking of action, if your kids are fans of The Wizard of Oz, then this opportunity might be right up their alley. The Algonquin Arts Theatre in Manasquan, NJ, will be holding auditions this May for elementary and middle school students.

Your kids would be part of a 10-show run taking place at the theatre from July 12 to July 27, 2025. According to the theatre website, most parts for the kids will be for the role of Munchkins, along with a few additional featured roles.

If your kids are interested, there are a few things to know before the auditions take place.

For one, you can't just show up for the audition. You'll first need to fill out an audition form located on their website, as well as a current headshot.

Additional requirements include singing and being part of the Algonquin Youth Ensemble for those under 18 years of age. More details on this can be found on the theatre's casting page.

Once the cast is announced, the theatre will not allow any scheduling conflicts, so be sure to check all rehearsal and show dates before 100% committing. The good news for the kids, however, is that all this takes place after school is done for the summer.

Although rehearsals and shows will occur during the summer, auditions to try out will be taking place in May (high school and adult tryouts have already taken place in April).

Open cast calls will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Algonquin Arts Theatre for elementary and middle school students who are interested in trying out. More details, including how your child can be part of the performance, can be found here.

Danni Forrester blasted a home run and drove in three runs as Manasquan defeated Shore, 6-4, to claim the Monmouth County Tournament Gold Bracket championship in Manasquan.

The fifth-seeded Warriors (5-13) collected 15 hits in the victory over the eighth-seeded Blue Devils (16-10), with Calista Vowteras leading the way with a perfect 4-for-4 performance that included a triple.

Manasquan took an early lead with two runs in the second inning before Shore responded with a four-run outburst in the third to take a 4-2 advantage. The Warriors narrowed the gap with a run in the bottom of the third before rallying for three runs in the sixth inning to secure the victory.

Julia Carson earned the win for Manasquan, pitching a complete game while striking out nine batters and walking two. Carson also contributed offensively, going 2-for-4 at the plate.

Forrester’s power display included a triple and a home run, while Lindsay Fuller and Delia Gilmore each went 2-for-4 with Fuller driving in a run. Brooke Loughlin and Allison McCoy also added RBIs for the Warriors.

For Shore, Angela Christoper had a perfect day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base.

Olivia DeFonce went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base, while Morgan Shaftel drove in two runs.
