Train service to MetLife stadium for the Shakira concerts on Friday and Saturday has been canceled. In future weeks, the Weekend and Beyonce are set to appear.
Rideshare services may be an option, but Uber sent a note to customers Wednesday night saying they should expect more demand and higher prices. "Due to the potential NJ Transit strike which could take effect as early as Friday, we are expecting significantly higher demand for Uber rides across New Jersey, especially during large-scale events that will take place at MetLife Stadium," they noted.

State Sen. And Union City Mayor Brian Stack said Friday, "Thousands of New Jerseyans are facing real financial hardship simply because they cannot get to work. This is not just an inconvenience, it is a growing crisis affecting livelihoods and well-being across our state. I strongly urge NJ TRANSIT and the locomotive engineers’ union to return to the negotiating table without delay."

Earlier this week, Hoboken's mayor gave advice to area residents on how transportation and this weekend's Hoboken Arts and Music Festival could be affected by an NJ Transit strike.
He also noted that planned work on the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail system over the weekend may take some areas out of service. In addition, construction on anti-flooding measures has closed part of Jersey Avenue, a road through Jersey City leading to Hoboken.

The annual Hoboken Spring Arts + Music Festival will return for 2025 on Sunday, May 18th, and locals will be able to shop over 300 artists, crafters, food vendors, and more. Hoboken’s 2025 Spring Arts + Music Festival will take place on Sunday, May 18th from 11AM-6PM on Washington Street between Observer Highway and 7th Street.

The event will feature displays and sales by 300+ artists, crafters, food vendors, kids’ activities, and local businesses — including artwork, food, clothing, jewelry, flowers, furniture + home decor, among other things.
There will also be two stages of live music performances located on Washington Street between Newark Street and Observer Highway and on Washington Street between Sixth Street and Seventh Street.
This year’s festival will he headlined by Grammy-nominated musician Brenda K. Starr, who is best known for her hit pop ballad “I Still Believe.”
“We are excited to welcome Brenda K. Starr, an internationally renowned artist, to headline this year’s festival and bring her incredible talent to the City,” Hoboken Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla said. “From live music to local artisans and great food, the Hoboken Spring Arts & Music Festival has something for everyone and highlights what makes Hoboken such a special place to live, work, and visit. I encourage residents and vendors alike, to come and experience this wonderful cultural celebration.”

The City also noted via a Nixle alert that a rideshare drop-off zone will be located on the west side of Washington Street from Eighth to Ninth Street. Parking will be extremely limited, and there is a gridlock advisory from 4PM to 8PM on Sunday due to the ongoing construction on Jersey Avenue.
For 2025, the City has partnered with EventHub — a digital event management platform — to streamline the vendor and sponsorship registration process. The platform will also provide residents with a digital map of vendors for the festival and allow them to purchase tickets for future events, like the annual Spaghetti Dinner Block Party.

HOBOKEN, NJ — Hoboken's mayor gave advice to local residents on how transportation and this weekend's Hoboken Arts and Music Festival could be impacted by an NJ Transit strike.
NJ Train service may stop this Friday due to failed contract negotiations between NJ Transit and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen.
The transit agency has encouraged commuters to work from home if they can, and use mass transit for essential travel only.
Mayor Ravi Bhalla sent a message to Hoboken residents late on Tuesday, noting an additional transit complication: planned work on the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail system over the weekend may take some areas out of service.

Bhalla gave advice on how to handle the strike and complications.
What To Do
Bhalla said, "Earlier today, I met with the heads of Hoboken’s Transportation Department, Police Department, Office of Emergency Management, Public Safety, and Administration to prepare for what may be a significant disruption to regional transit beginning this Friday... I share your frustration that we are once again facing the consequences of the agency’s inability to effectively plan ahead."
He noted, "Additionally, NJ Transit and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection are planning to conduct construction that would necessitate a double-track outage in the northern section of the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail system throughout this weekend."
He said that if this work goes on as scheduled, 19th Street in Weehawken would be fully closed west of the HBLR track crossing, between Waterfront Terrace and the Hartz Mountain ramp, between 8 a.m. Saturday through 8 p.m. on Sunday.
"My administration asked for this work to be rescheduled so that HBLR service would continue uninterrupted during an already difficult weekend," he said, "and NJ Transit is reviewing this request based on the necessity of their planned electrical work."
NY Waterway issued a message late Tuesday saying they will increase service on their ferries if necessary.
“We’re closely monitoring the situation and are prepared to increase capacity and frequency of our ferry service between New Jersey and Manhattan based on demand,” said NY Waterway President and CEO Armand Pohan.
Hoboken Spring Arts and Music Festival
The Hoboken Spring Arts and Music Festival is slated for Sunday on lower Washington Street. That area is closed to cars during the festival.
"I strongly encourage everyone to attend and enjoy the day," Bhalla said. "However, we must also acknowledge that vehicle traffic will put added stress on our transportation infrastructure. To help alleviate congestion, I urge attendees to consider alternative ways of getting to the festival, including the PATH, Citi Bike, NJ Transit bus, and HBLR from unaffected areas. If these options are not available to you, consider carpooling or rideshare."
A rideshare drop-off zone will be located on the west side of Washington Street from Eighth to Ninth Street, Bhlala said. Parking will be extremely limited, and there is a gridlock advisory from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday.
Canceling Summer Streets
To assist with circulation, Sinatra Drive Summer Streets is canceled this Sunday. Sinatra Drive will be open to northbound traffic between Fifth Street and Eleventh Street, Bhalla said.
The art and music festival usually draws as many as 30,000 attendees.
