It’s officially the start of the warmer months, and bear activity around Mercer County, New Jersey, is definitely going to start to pick up.

As the warmer months go oon, we tend to see more and more bears roaming the streets and the latest one just happened in Hamilton Township.

We tend to see more bears during this time of year throughout the area, and this recent sighting could be one of the earliest for the season in Hamilton.

If you’re in the area, it’s a good idea to stay alert today because residents spotted a black bear roaming around the township recently.

Hamilton Township residents reported a recent black bear sighting near Paxson Avenue, close to St. Mark's Church. The bear was last seen earlier this morning.

If you come across a bear, remain calm and slowly back away. Make the bear aware that you're there by talking in a loud, assertive voice, clapping your hands, or banging pots and pans.

Avoid direct eye contact, which bears may see as a threat. Also, never run from a bear because it could trigger a chase response.

Officials are saying not to approach the bear if you come into contact and move to a secure area.

By following these simple things, residents can help prevent unwanted bear encounters and ensure their safety.

HAMILTON, NJ – The mixed choir of the Eastern Federation of Greek Orthodox Church Musicians (EFGOCM) held its 32nd annual concert, titled ‘The Spirit of Lent’ on Friday, April 11, at the Church of St. George in Hamilton.

Under the artistic direction of Ryan J. Kiel, the choir, made up of 50 voices, presented a program of 18 ancient and contemporary compositions in both Greek and English for the Lenten season.

They performed hymns such as ‘Why Have the Nations Raged’, ‘Save, O Lord, Your People’, ‘I Behold Your Bridal Chamber’, the Hymn of Kassiani, ‘Ti Ipermaho’ – ‘To You, the Champion General’ (hymn to the Theotokos), among others – receiving warm applause from the audience.

The presiding priest of the church, Protopresbyter Anastasios Kousoulas, welcomed the choir members and all guests to the holy church of St. George through The National Herald. “This annual event always brings us the spirit of Lent and Holy Week. The faithful look forward to it with yearning and follow the program with reverence. Prayer and hymns are the essence of our Church, and we are delighted to have the choir with us.” Fr. Kousoulas explained that “the Church of St. George was built in 1922 in the city of Trenton, mainly by people from Andros and Chios, and moved to its current location in 1976. We have over 400 families, a Greek and Catechetical school, a Philoptochos Society, youth programs, and, above all, faithful and good people – family-oriented and always ready to help and offer what they can. We wish everyone a happy Easter, with health, peace throughout the world, and joy as we celebrate the Resurrection.”

The choir’s artistic director, Kiel Ryan, in his message, offered a brief overview of the choir’s history and its mission:

“As every year, a few days before Holy Week, we present a program of religious hymns. The choir consists of members from many Greek Orthodox churches in New Jersey and is supported by the Holy Metropolis. It includes church musicians – choir members, chanters, and music educators from parochial schools throughout New Jersey. “It teaches ecclesiastical music, awards scholarships, conducts vocal technique workshops, encourages youth participation, strengthens communication between church musicians and church leadership, and enhances the spiritual and musical knowledge of our church musicians. “Two major concerts are presented in New Jersey each year – the Spirit of Lent and the annual Christmas concert in December. In September, the choir sings during the celebration of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Asbury Park.”

Former Parish Council President Athanasios Ginis, through the newspaper, invited all members of the Greek-American community to the Vespers of St. George on Tuesday, April 22, in the presence of Metropolitan Apostolos. After the service, there will be a celebration with food and music. He also noted the parish’s annual festival, which will be held May 15-18, which, as he said, is the largest festival in the wider region.

After the concert, a reception with Lenten foods followed in the community hall.

Authentic Greek Easter at Estiatorio Milos

It's a May tradition in Hamilton that's been going on for many years.

I got married in May and after our wedding, we had pictures taken in Sayen Garden. It was the week after the Azalea Festival and the flowers were still all in bloom, which made the perfect backdrop for our pictures.

There is no admission fee, but you can grab lunch or a snack at any of the fun food trucks. Twisted Steaks, Poppa-Q-BBQ, Aunt Martha's Funnel Cake, Swal Dairy, KK Sweets, Lilla Vanilla, and more will be there.

There will be local crafters, and other vendors, there to do some shopping as well.

There's live music throughout the day. Ambiance The Duo will be there from 10am - 2pm and The Meg Hansen Group will be there from 12pm - 4pm.

It's such a fun vibe, so plan on spending the day.

The St. Patrick's Day Parade in Hamilton Township (Mercer County) is one of the most fun and festive events in the area.

Everyone is a little Irish on parade day.

If you're planning on being at the parade and celebrating the holiday with thousands of other parade goers, there are some things you need to know.

The parade date this year will allow for some pre-holiday fun. It will be on Saturday, March 8.

The opening ceremony will take place at the Nottingham Fire House.

It is located at 200 Mercer Street, at 12:30 pm. The parade itself will begin at 1pm.

The parade kicks off from Nottingham Fire House (200 Mercer Street). It follows Mercer Street towards Nottingham Way, turns right onto Nottingham Way, and follows Nottingham Way to Shady Lane.

The Grand Marshal of the 2025 Hamilton St. Patrick's Day Parade is Todd Faulkner.

Faulkner and his wife, Maureen, are the owners of the iconic Tir na nOg Irish pub in Trenton. They bought it from the family of Billy Briggs in 2012 and are very involved in the community.

Notre Dame High School senior, Riley Carr is this year's Miss St. Patrick.

Carr is the President of the Notre Dame Student Government, an athlete, a peer leader, and is involved in many charity groups throughout the community.

The weather is looking good, as of today (Wednesday). Expect a mix of sun and clouds, breezy, with a high temperature close to 50 degrees. No rain in the forecast. I would dress to stay warm, though.

If for some reason the weather drastically changes and there is a need to postpone the parade, the rain date is March 22.

A new cannabis dispensary has been approved for Hamilton Township, according to minutes from a Hamilton Township Planning Board meeting back on February 20.

At that time, a new application was presented by the Operations Manager of Vision Cannabis and its legal team. They want to open a new retail location at 147 Sloan Avenue.

Does that address sound familiar?

I just told you yesterday that's the address of the now-shuttered DeLorenzo's Pizza.

Earlier this week, DeLorenzo's of Hamilton was shut down by the state's Division of Taxation for "unpaid taxes." It wasn't clear what the next steps for the site were.

However, just hours after news of the closure started to swirl on Facebook, the shop itself posted on Facebook alleging that they were closing "for renovations" to make room for another business that they'd be "sharing the space with."

That post, however, has since been deleted.

The Hamilton Township Planning Board meeting minutes even say that the current tenant's, (DeLorenzo's) lease was up in July.

Vision Cannabis was even helping them look for a new space, as they "would like to see a local business (DeLorenzo's) succeed," according to the meeting minutes.

Vision Cannabis has a grow facility in Ewing, so it could sell its own products.

Among the details in this proposal, there would be pretty extensive security cameras and procedures — including making sure that nobody underage could enter the facility.

There would be no smell in the area because all of the products would be sealed as well.

Additionally, all products would be located a vault (and not on display in the store) for security purposes.

As part of the testimony presented by the attorney representing the Vision Cannabis, Richard Fornaro, Esq., said the location was ideal for this type of business because "it's far enough away from any childcare center, schools, or residents."

The Hamilton Township Planning Board unanimously approved the application from Vision Cannabis on February 20.

No timeline was given as to when the business would be opening or what the exact next steps are for the business.
