(HACKENSACK, NJ) -- The Northern New Jersey Community Foundation (NNJCF) announced that New Jersey Assemblyman Clinton Calabrese of Cliffside Park will receive the first Creative Communities Award at the organization's inaugural Community Changemaker Night. This special event will honor exemplary community leaders, who have made significant contributions to the betterment of life in North Jersey. The celebration takes place on Thursday, June 5, 2025 from 6:00pm to 8:30pm at a cocktail reception at Forte Ristorante, located at 160 Prospect Avenue in Hackensack.

Assemblyman Clinton Calabrese will receive the Creative Communities Award for his work helping communities through the arts, supporting artists, and enhancing cultural ecosystems. His extensive experience includes roles on various committees, including Vice-Chair of the Assembly Tourism, Arts, and Gaming Committee and Chair of the Assembly Transportation and Independent Authorities Committee. He has also held the position of Vice-Chair in the Assembly Telecommunications and Utilities Committee and the Assembly Oversight, Reform, and Federal Relations Committee. Assemblyman Calabrese has also served on the Assembly Environment and Solid Waste Committee, the Assembly Housing Committee, and the Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee. He holds a Master of Science in Real Estate from New York University and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia.

Community Leaders to be Honored: The NNJCF will honor local heroes, who have made their communities better places to live, work and be. These 2025 award recipients, who exemplify excellence in the Foundation’s focus areas – green and healthy places, creative communities, and belonging and opportunity – as well as overall community leadership, will also be honored:

* Fairleigh Dickinson University Professor and Biology Department Chair Dr. Marion McClary – Green and Healthy Places Leadership Award for protecting the environment or advancing public health.

The festivities will be emceed by humorist and Bergen Record columnist Bill Ervolino performing, in conjunction with a fun, interactive game-show awards ceremony presented by Ryan Huban of Howdy Stranger. Attendees will also have an opportunity to network with more than 100 leaders and advocates dedicated to making North Jersey a better place to live, work and be, while enjoying artisanal bites and a selection of wines and beers in a vibrant atmosphere.

“The proceeds from this celebration will help the Northern New Jersey Community Foundation enhance North Jersey communities. By working together, we can build community partnerships that achieve more impact than any organization can do alone,” said Leonardo Vazquez, Executive Director of the Foundation.

That was the message from a Democratic strategist who worked for both of Hillary Clinton‘s presidential campaigns after President Donald Trump‘s meeting with the president of El Salvador.

Trump’s top advisers and President Nayib Bukele said Monday that they have no basis for the small Central American nation to return a Maryland man who was wrongly deported there last month.

Bukele called the idea “preposterous” even though the U.S. Supreme Court has called on the administration to “facilitate” Kilmar Abrego Garcia’s return.

“I guess it’s good to know that the next Democratic president can ship Trump and his cabinet off to a Central American prison without a trial and we won’t ever have to worry about them coming back,” Adam Parkhomenko posted to X in response.

Trump administration officials emphasized that Abrego Garcia, who was sent to a notorious gang prison in El Salvador, was a citizen of that country and that the U.S. has no say in his future. And Bukele, who has been a vital partner for the Trump administration in its deportation efforts, said “of course” he would not release him back to U.S. soil.

“The question is preposterous. How can I smuggle a terrorist into the United States?” Bukele, seated alongside Trump, told reporters in the Oval Office Monday. “I don’t have the power to return him to the United States.”

Should El Salvador want to return Abrego Garcia, the U.S. would “facilitate it, meaning provide a plane,” Attorney General Pam Bondi said.

But “first and foremost, he was illegally in our country, and he had been illegally in our country,” she said. “That’s up to El Salvador if they want to return him. That’s not up to us.”

The refusal of both countries to allow the return of Abrego Garcia, who had an immigration court order preventing his deportation over fears of gang persecution, is intensifying the battle over the Maryland resident’s future.

The Supreme Court has called for the Trump administration to “facilitate” the return of Abrego Garcia.
