Tractor Supply Company continues their expansion through South Jersey with plans to develop a new retail location in Clayton New Jersey on Delsea Drive.

This would be the 4th location in-process for South Jersey with locations planned or proposed for Mantua, Pennsville, Deptford and now Clayton.

Tractor Supply Company is a rapidly growing retailer specializing in products for hobby farmers and home, offering products for home improvement, agricultural, horse, livestock, pet care, lawn and garden, and even outdoor work clothing.

Their store design features a large 20,000+ square foot store as well as a large outdoor enclosed area for large garden equipment and related seasonal products.

The Clayton location is moving further into the process with a Clayton Planning/Zoning meeting scheduled for Monday April 28^th at 7pm.

This proposed project is located on Delsea Drive at the corner of Madison Ave, across from the Dollar General store.

The proposal calls for a 21,960 square foot Tractor Supply Company retail building with associated site improvements including landscaping, signage, storm water management and site lighting.

With the building sitting at the corner, the main entrance will face Delsea Drive and include a car driveway entrance there. A second driveway entrance will be located on Madison Ave.

The building will feature parking in front of the building (along Delsea Drive), but also offer parking on the Madison Ave side. The outdoor portion of the retail store will be on the far other side of the building (right side).

The project calls for 107 auto spaces as well as three oversized spaces… for a total of 110 vehicle spots.

There are a few variances requested including the outside storage of merchandise in the fence-in enclosure, as well as signage (which is basically a part of every new retail development approval process).

Tractor Supply Company – Sowing South Jersey Locations

Tractor Supply likes to locate their stores right at transition areas between denser suburban areas to more rural farm spaces, where they can pull from a variety of customers.

The Tractor Supply website lists 31 locations in New Jersey, and in South Jersey they are operating in West Berlin, Vineland, Sicklerville, Rio Grande, Pilesgrove, Logan Township, Little Egg Harbor, Hamilton, Egg Harbor, Buena Vista and Bridgeton.

For the three other in-process projects (Pennsville, Mantua, Deptford) I’ve recently provided updates.

The Pennsville location has significant site preparation work taking place with the entire construction lot covered with new soil.

The Mantua location is taking over the former Gino’s Driving Range property on Route 45, and recently crews showed up on site to start removing the structures on the property ahead of development.

Still very early in the process is a Tractor Supply Company store planned for Deptford, taking over the Buy, Buy, Baby segment of the large Bed, Bath and Beyond building located directly across from the mall. Since Deptford is a conversion of an existing space it may not need to go to the Planning Board… representatives with the project are hoping to open this winter.

Clayton Mayor Tom Bianco was overjoyed when he learned his borough would be getting a county library branch.

“I was joyous,” Bianco told NJ Advance Media. “I was totally surprised.”

A $3 million grant from the New Jersey State Library’s Capital Projects Fund made it possible. It allows the Gloucester County Library System to build a nearly 4,500-square-foot building in the 700 block of N. Delsea Drive, with a projected opening in the spring of next year.

The grant’s purpose is to fund construction or improvements to facilities designed to enable work, education, and health monitoring in communities with critical needs. It prioritizes areas most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, as per federal guidelines.

“It is a community that really needs a library,” Carolyn Oldt, the county library director, told NJ Advance Media. “There is so much need there. We’re really making every square inch of this building count.”

The main branch is in Mullica Hill. There is a wide disparity between household incomes in Mullica Hill and Clayton. The median household income in Mullica Hill is $123,265, compared to $54,700 in Clayton. Oldt said the Clayton library will be within walking distance to the center of the town.

“All of those people without the internet will now have the opportunity to access the internet with our resources,” Oldt said. “As part of the grant, we had to be close to public transportation.”

The distance between Clayton and the main branch of the library in Mullica Hill is nearly 10 miles. There is a closer branch in Glassboro, about 3 miles away, but the new facility in Clayton will be more than twice the size of the 1,800-square-foot building there.

“This project represents our support for literacy, lifelong learning, and community connectivity,” Liaison Joann Gattinelli, a county commissioner, said in a statement. “We are excited to see this vision become a reality.”

Oldt said the library can be the hub for many activities, including computer literacy, job skills help, health care screening and more.

The county has libraries in Glassboro, Greenwich, Logan, Mullica Hill (Harrison), Newfield and Swedesboro.

“This new library in Clayton will be a tremendous asset, offering a modern space for learning, community engagement and enrichment,” Frank DiMarco, the county commissioner director said.

SAN ANTONIO -- In a different universe, Walter Clayton Jr. might have led Rick Pitino and St. John’s to the Final Four.

When Clayton transferred from Iona following the 2022-23 season, he was close to following Pitino to St. John’s.

“Very, very close,” Clayton told NJ Advance Media in the Florida locker room at the Final Four after playing EA Sports College Football 25 with his teammates. “It was like a 50/50. And then I found out my daughter’s on the way and that kind of shifted a lot.”

Clayton’s daughter, Leilani Leigh Clayton, was born in December, and Clayton, a Florida native, felt he had to be closer to her. Still it was neck-and-neck between St. John’s and Florida and the Gators had to close the deal late.

“It’s really hard to beat Rick Pitino, man,” Florida coach Todd Golden said here Thursday. Golden said he and associate head coach Korey McCray flew up to meet with Clayton on Easter Sunday in 2023 to “reconfirm our vision” for Clayton and he committed that night. Golden joked that he is Jewish, and it was fortunate that he was not busy on that Easter.

“Obviously, I’m really glad we got on that plane, it was well worth it,” Golden added.

The 6-foot-3 Clayton has been brilliant this season for the Gators, who meet Auburn here in an all-SEC matchup in the Final Four on Saturday. He’s averaging 18.1 points, 4.2 assists and 3.6 rebounds and was named a first-team All-America selection despite battling an ankle injury during the season.

He went for 30 points and 4 assists in Florida’s 84-79 win over Texas Tech in the Elite Eight. He had an alley-oop slam to put Florida up 10 late.

Meantime, his draft stock is in the rise and he may have played himself into the first round of the NBA Draft.

“He was, if not the best, one of the best guards in America,” Golden said here Thursday. “He certainly displayed that over the back half of the season as well.”

Said Auburn coach Bruce Pearl: “Walter Clayton has been the best guard on the floor almost every night.”

Had he gone to St. John’s, Clayton would have played alongside Kadary Richmond, the Seton Hall transfer.

“Kadary was the Big East MVP, you know that I think that,” Mike DeCourcy of The Sporting News told NJ Advance Media. “But Walter would have given them what they lacked, the ability to shoot from that position that they didn’t have really strong at any position and then obviously he has shown an aptitude for this position.”

St. John’s, of course, was knocked out in the second round of the NCAA Tournament as a 2 seed by Arkansas when Pitino benched RJ Luis down the stretch. Luis, the Big East Player of the Year and MOP of the Big East Tournament, has since entered the transfer portal and declared for the NBA Draft, while Pitino stands by his decision.

“100 percent the right decision not playing RJ Luis in that game,” Pitino said in the new episode of the VICE Sports doc “Pitino: Red Storm Rising.”

As for Clayton, he is looking to lead Florida to its first NCAA title game appearance since the Gators won back-to-back titles in 2006-7 under Billy Donovan.

And Pitino has reached out to offer good luck to Clayton.

“I talked to him a little bit recently,” Clayton said.

And of course, Clayton feels he made the right call choosing Florida over St. John’s.

“Yes, sir, for sure,” Clayton said. “It definitely was the right decision.”
